Farmovia

A farm management platform, designed and built from scratch

Client: Farmovia
Project: A farm management platform, designed and built from scratch
Focus: Turning a season of paperwork into one clear, compliant plan
Role: Product strategy, UX & UI design, full-stack build and launch campaign

The Challenge

Small-scale growers in Mauritius manage dozens of beds, crops and treatments at once, mostly from memory, notebooks and WhatsApp. Spray records go missing at audit, stock runs out mid-cycle, and two crops end up promised to the same bed.

The challenge was to design and build a complete farm management platform from a blank canvas. It had to be simple enough for a grower on a laptop and a worker on a phone, and strict enough to keep every farm within the Use of Pesticides Act.

Objectives

  • Map the real farm: Let growers trace their land and beds on a satellite map, measured to the square metre
  • Plan at bed level: Schedule every crop on every bed, without double-booking
  • Make compliance automatic: Check every spray against Mauritian law before it happens
  • Bring the team along: Give field workers a simple phone app with a PIN, not another login

Research & Strategy

Edit Studio started in the field, with growers, not at the screen:

  • Understanding how a diversified market garden actually runs, day by day
  • Mapping where records, stock and planning break down
  • Working through the Use of Pesticides Act 2018 and FAREI crop standards

The strategy centred on one set of numbers. The bed’s area drives the plan, the plan drives the seed order and the tank mix, and every completed task writes the logbook.

Design & Execution

  1. Farm Designer: A drawing tool on live satellite imagery. Boundaries, plots and beds are measured automatically, and beds are named and numbered as they are drawn.
  2. Crop Planner & Season Schedule: Growers pick beds on the map and schedule a crop. A season-long timeline shows when each bed is truly free again.
  3. Compliance Built In: The pesticide rules of the Act are enforced in the database itself, so a product that isn’t permitted on a crop simply can’t be planned.
  4. Worker App on Mobile: Phones open a dedicated worker app with today’s tasks, nursery work and planting, in English and French.
  5. Designed and Built Without a Handoff: Edit Studio designed and engineered the whole product, from UX to database to launch, with AI-assisted development.

Final Outcome

  • A complete farm management platform, from map to logbook
  • Compliance with Mauritian pesticide law built into every plan
  • A mobile worker app, a supplier marketplace, and annual licensing with a free trial

The result is a platform that gives small growers the planning and record-keeping of a large estate, launched in Mauritius in October 2026.

Good farm software shouldn’t replace a grower’s instinct. It should give it a map, a calendar and a logbook.
